Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month is a global healthcare event observed for the entire month of June every year for the last four decades, commemorating the awareness of Alzheimer's and other brain diseases. This month highlights the importance of early diagnosis and its impact on the families of people affected.
We at Infinity Health Care are aimed to focus on Alzheimer and Brain Awareness with our expert’s team of Neurologist. We would like to bring attention on the various health issues a human face in its life.

Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects people over the age of 65 that impacts cognitive processes such as attention, language, memory, judgement, and reasoning. It is the common type of dementia, contributing two-thirds, making it the most prevalent form of the disease. Alzheimer's disease symptoms vary with disease progression. Mild, preclinical and dementia-stage are the three distinct types of Alzheimer's disease, classified based on the presence of a degree of cognitive impairment. Most patients show the initial symptom of episodic short-term memory loss with a relative sparing of long-term memory.

Neurology is the branch of medicine that deals with disorders of the nervous system, which include the brain, blood vessels, muscles and nerves. The main areas of neurology are: the autonomic, central and peripheral nervous systems. Neurological conditions often differ between infants and young children and adults. Neurological conditions in those younger than 18 years are managed by pediatric neurologists. Disorders that affect the pediatric population include: cerebral palsy, complex metabolic diseases, epilepsy, learning disabilities, and nerve and muscle diseases.

The four leading causes of Neurological are :-

  • Stroke (42.2%)
  • Migraine (16.3%)
  • Alzheimer and other dementias (10.4%)
  • Meningitis (7.9%)

Neurological conditions can arise due to a variety of factors, including genetic, environmental, lifestyle, and medical conditions.

Here are some common causes of neurological issues: -

  • Genetic Factors

    • Inherited Disorders: - Conditions like Huntington's disease, certain types of epilepsy, and hereditary neuropathies are caused by genetic mutations passed down from parents to their children.
    • Genetic Predispositions: - Some individuals may have a genetic predisposition to neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
  • Infections

    • Viral Infection: - Viruses like herpes simplex, HIV, and the West Nile virus can infect the nervous system and cause conditions like encephalitis and meningitis.
    • Bacterial Infection: - Bacteria such as Neisseria meningitidis and Streptococcus pneumoniae can cause bacterial meningitis, which inflames the protective membranes of the brain and spinal cord.
  • Traumatic Injurious

    • Head Injuries: - Trauma to the head can result in concussions, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other forms of brain damage.
    • Spinal Cord Injuries: - Damage to the spinal cord from accidents, falls, or violence can lead to partial or complete paralysis and loss of function below the site of injury.
  • Neurodegenerative Disease

    • Alzheimer’s Disease: - Characterized by progressive memory loss and cognitive decline, often associated with the buildup of amyloid plaques and tau tangles in the brain.
    • Parkinson’s Disease: - A disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors, due to the loss of dopamine-producing brain cells.
    • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: - •A progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and atrophy.
  • Tumors and Cancer

    • Brain Tumors: - Both benign and malignant tumors can exert pressure on brain tissues, leading to neurological symptoms.
    • Metastatic Cancers: - Cancers that spread to the brain or spinal cord from other parts of the body can cause neurological conditions.
  • Psychiatric and Physiological Factors

    • Mental Health Disorders: - •Conditions like severe depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can also present with neurological symptoms, including headaches and cognitive issues.
  • Metabolic and Nutritional Deficiencies

    • Diabetes: - Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to diabetic neuropathy, causing damage to the nerves.
    • Vitamin Deficiencies: - •Deficiencies in vitamins like B12 can lead to neurological conditions, including peripheral neuropathy and cognitive impairment.
  • Aging

    • Natural aging process: - As people age, they may experience normal but often significant declines in neurological function, which can contribute to conditions such as dementia.

Treatments Are Available, But There Are No Cure

Alzheimer's disease is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. Alzheimer's illness currently has no cure. However, there are medications available that can temporarily alleviate the symptoms. Medicines for Alzheimer's disease symptoms are only one component of dementia therapy.

Other therapies, activities, and support, including support for carers, are equally vital in assisting individuals with dementia to live well. Meanwhile, be aware that medicines are available to help slow the onset of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Certain drugs can help reduce daily symptoms, allowing people with dementia to live better. Other drugs are available to assist in treating the anxiety and sleep problems common in Alzheimer's patients.

#Lead_The_Fight, Go Purple.

Conclusion: -

In June, Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month promotes awareness of the disease, its impact on individuals and families, and the significance of early identification and diagnosis. People can show their support by wearing a purple ribbon. The purple Alzheimer's awareness ribbon symbolizes the struggle against Alzheimer's disease and the hope for a cure.

We Infinity Health Care stand in awe of the huge impact that this exploration has had on our understanding and compassion as we conclude our journey through the intricate landscapes of Alzheimer's and brain awareness. We delved into the human mind, revealing the complexities of Alzheimer's disease and putting light on the hardships that individuals and families impacted by this condition endure.
